St. Charles, Maryland
As the age of the broadsheet was waning, our Client purchased a large newspaper facility with offices, printing press rooms and shipping/ distribution docks. Once the home of newspaper become that of major Funeral Home serving Southern, Maryland. Stripped down to the bare shell, our design incorporated, offices, family waiting and viewing rooms and chapel on the public side. The work side had drive in receiving areas and preparation areas for the departed as well as a crematory. What were once the loading docks and chutes for broadsheet to delivery trucks, became a separate entrance to a high bay lobby, large chapel, reception rooms, commercial kitchen and new toilet rooms. The chapel is configured in a manner to allow multiple seating arrangements for ceremonies of differing size up to several hundred people.
A focal point of the main funeral home facility and the organization’s satellite facilities are large built-in fish tanks that provide a peaceful serenity to those under going times of emotional stress. Comfort, quiet and support are keystones to the organization’s generational service to the community.
