Working in the critical area along waterways often requires additions to existing residences to gain Permit approvals. Here a Charles County Maryland waterfront cottage was transformed with a roadside two story addition. The existing cottage was renovated as a open kitchen and family room. Added on were ground level a living room, dining room, bathroom and side loaded garage. The upper level of the addition incorporated a master suite and private bathroom, two bedrooms and a shared bathroom.

Our client was looking for a traditional home with a different style. We proposed Carpenter Gothic with a combination of horizontal siding, board and batten and dormer like projections with steep roofs and simply trims. Windows on the corner step up with stair at intermediate landings with views of the surrounding farm land. A water source heat pump system eliminated the need for equipment at grade around the residence and kept the utility bills low.
